An adorable clip of 4-year-old Jesse Koczon crying because he was  “too small” to be governor of New Jersey became a viral hit on YouTube and snagged his family a $10,000 prize from America’s Funniest Home Videos. The video also drew a humorous response from Gov. Chris Christie (or his staff), who tweeted: “Don’t worry Jesse, people gave plenty of reasons why I couldn’t be Governor, though being too small wasn’t one of them.”

Now the boy will get a chance to be governor, after all — even if just for one day. Christie is set to sign a proclamation Wednesday naming Jesse, now 5, honorary governor. He’ll give Jesse, his twin brother Brandon and their family a tour of the governor’s office.

Dawn Koczon, the twins’ mother, said the boys went crazy on Tuesday when they heard they were going to meet the governor. ”They both just started jumping up and down, and they were screaming,” she said. Brandon declared himself and his brother “the luckiest kids ever,” Koczon said.

The video was shot on Election Day 2009 after the Koczons took their twins to their polling place. The children wanted to vote too, but a poll worker told them they were not big enough. Jesse began to cry, and the tears continued well into the car ride home. Koczon flipped the camera on, asked her son why he was crying, and he replied: “Everyone tells me that I’m too small to be the governor of New Jersey.”

The boys, who live in Old Bridge, wrote the governor thank-you notes ahead of the big day. Jesse knows he’s going to meet the governor but the proclamation naming him honorary governor is going to be a surprise.

Christie may be in for a surprise of his own. Jesse’s career ambitions have already changed, his mother said.

He now wants to be a rock star.
